What you need to know about Essential Oils and how they help Brain Function.

Although essential oils don't work for everyone, studies suggest that aromatherapy and essential oils may treat symptoms of closed head injuries. Aromatherapy can relieve general depression symptoms, according to recent research. Anxiety and depression are common side effects for individuals suffering from concussions, post-concussion syndrome, and closed head injuries as well as other neurological diseases including dementia. It's believed that aromatherapy treatments can improve the overall quality of life.



In addition to supporting brain function, aromatherapy is linked with improving cognitive performance. Rosemary is a key oil known for this! It's known especially for improving the ability to remember events, aid in converting short term to long term memory as well as help process tasks at hand. future tasks.


Understanding essential oils and their properties can be a daunting challenge at first and I am in no way, shape, or form a specialist, but here's what I've found to help aid in my brain function as I recover.


The list of "essentials"

Peppermint:

This oil is known for its' energizing properties and can provide huge benefits in stimulating the brain. It seems to work best for me if I use it as a topical application along my temples or diffuse peppermint and lemon in the mornings as I begin working. In addition, peppermint has properties that are antimicrobial and antiviral aiding in our immune system functions!


Bergamont:

Bergamot is my go-to for stress, agitation, and anxiety! For me, I have better luck using it as a topical oil. It's especially known to calm the brain and suppress both aggression and agitation caused by hormone imbalances as well as frustrations from recovery and memory loss.


Lemon:

A citrus oil that packs a punch in both scent and brain function! This oil is thought to be one of the most effective and well-studied options. It's known to improve memory functions and aid in stress and relaxation.


Rosemary:

Rosary acts similarly to peppermint as it stimulates the mind. More importantly, it's known to improve memory as well as the ability to recall.

Sandalwood, Frankincense, Cedarwood, Vetiver, and Patchouli- are known for improving oxygen levels in the brain by 28%
