Brain fog is not uncommon for those of us going through brain injury recovery and if not careful can be incredibly debilitating. So how do you tackle brain fog and move forward? Here are just a couple of things to think about to help get your brain "moving."

Do something challenging: whether it be a Sudoko puzzle, crossword, or eye exercises to strengthen your brain, do something that is a bit challenging (don't overdo it!). By doing this you strengthen and incorporate new pathways that weren't there before.
incorporate more exercise into your day: Exercise is one way to increase the birth of new brain cells and connections in the brain. By incorporating exercise, it's not only good for your overall heart and body health but also good for stimulating brain health and growth.
Get better sleep: At night our brains enter "wash cycles;" sorting through all of the information we've consumed throughout the day and choosing what is important and what can be washed away. By creating a bedtime routine, lowering your intake of blue light (screens), and creating a peaceful bedroom environment, you may increase your overall sleep quality.
Connect with people: Relationships have a profound effect on brain health and buffer us from the stress of daily life and help to provide meaning in our lives.
Eat the food that fuels you- diets are different for everyone and what works best for me may not work best for you, but find the key components that make you and your brain feel the best and stick to it! I promise it's so worth it! Think about when you are eating as well- do you feel better when you eat three large meals or maybe five smaller meals throughout the day; do you operate better during the workday with more frequent snacks and water intake?
Create healthy routines and rituals: Think about creating a routine during the day that helps you stay on track and helps you feel your best. Not sure where to start? Start small. Create a bedtime routine or morning routine that you can look forward to and that brings you peace.
